Dance/Movement Therapy: Creating Community Connections
Brooklyn and Beyond
October 24-27, 2013
New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge
Please join us for the 48th Annual Conference of the American Dance Therapy Association in Brooklyn, New York from October 24-27, 2013. Once again we will take to the streets of Brooklyn and share our work with the city that never sleeps.
Dance/movement therapy, at its core, is about connection … connection to self and connection to others, by way of dance and movement. Dance has historically been an integral way in which people and cultures around the world express their feelings and communicate with one another and within their communities. Similarly, our work as dance/movement therapists helps to connect individuals and communities during times of celebration and joy as well as times of tragedy and sorrow. Together we will explore the ways in which our work focuses on the themes of creating … community … and connections.
This 48th ADTA Annual Conference aims to highlight the theme of creating community connections, and so we invite proposals for presentations, seminars and workshops that honor and explore our varied approaches in practice, theory or research that speak to the way in which our work promotes connection. What’s happening in your community? How does your work as a dance/movement therapist help you to connect with other professionals? How do you help your clients connect with themselves and others? How do you create a sense of community in your work? Has your work connected you with a broader community? Have you expanded your work to connect with others in different cultures?
