Please join us for the 49th Annual Conference of the American Dance Therapy Association in Chicago, Illinois from November 6-9, 2014. Once again we will share the “stage” with the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) to create an enriching conference that celebrates and highlights both our similarities as well as our differences, ultimately providing us with a greater understanding of and appreciation for our respective fields.
We come together in the spirit of collaboration, to explore where our fields share a common perspective, as in a mosaic, in which tiny pieces fit together to create a cohesive and complex whole. Based on this idea we have deconstructed the components of “Dance”, “Movement”, and “Therapy” in order to examine the spectrum of our field.
Dance as a creative art form
Movement as a somatic/body experience
therapy as a mind/clinical approach to growth
Together we will study the ways in which dance/movement therapy exists and thrives as it engages and collaborates with other fields and professionals, such as dancers, artists, yoga therapists, body psychotherapists and other forms of psychotherapy, to name just a few. How do we work together? How do we learn from one another? How is the field of dance/movement therapy uniquely situated to integrate dance, movement and therapy?
The 49th annual conference aims to highlight the theme of collaboration, amongst clinicians within our profession as well as professionals outside our field. We invite proposals for papers, seminars and workshops that honor and explore our varied approaches in practice, theory or research. As an organization that values diversity, all presentations, seminars and workshops at the ADTA conference should address issues of multicultural competence that arise through the particular submissions, please see the toolbox in the conference area of the ADTA website.
Unity is strength...when there is teamwork and collaboration,
wonderful things can be achieved.
