Fran J. Levy has her Doctorate in Creative Arts Therapy. She is a Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist and a Psychodramatist, formerly a fellow in the Society for Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama. Fran Levy is also a Diplomate in the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work. She has been practicing as an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist in Brooklyn, NY for over 30 years.
Dr. Levy is the author of Dance Movement Therapy: A healing art (AAHPERD, 2005) and Senior Editor of Dance and Other Expressive Art Therapies: When words are not enough (Routledge Press). Her books have been translated into Korean and Chinese and are used as textbooks for graduate and undergraduate programs in the United States and abroad. She teaches her work internationally.
Levy is an innovator in the area of the arts in psychotherapy. In the 80's, she formalized a method, which she came to call psychodramatic movement therapy, combining nonverbal expression with psychodramatic methods. Having come from both a dance and art background, she later added the use of the visual arts and now refers to her work as multimodal psychotherapy or integrative arts psychotherapy. Over the last 30 years, through her writing, teaching and practice, Levy pioneered the integration of the arts in psychotherapy and continues teaching and utilizing this work today.
Dr. Levy will lecture on Friday, October 25, 2013, 4:15 pm.
