Let’s celebrate! It is officially National Dance Week! This year National Dance Week Foundation (NDWF) is calling all dancers to take the lead in creating and organizing ways to “Celebrate Dance and Promote Fun Fitness”.

First Lady Michelle Obama has also challenged America to celebrate moving as a healthy way of life. As part of her Let’s Move initiative, she has invited all to learn the ‪‎#GimmeFive‬ dance choreographed to “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars.

American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) has accepted the First Lady’s #GimmeFive challenge and asked for members to contribute their renditions of the #GimmeFive dance:

ADTA President Jody Wager accepted the #GimmeFive challenge and performs with staff at Dominion Hospital in Virginia.

ADTA Government Affairs Committee Chair Allison Winters dances the #GimmeFive challenge with staff at the VA Community Living Center in Livermore, California.

View all the #GimmeFive challenge submissions on the ADTA Official YouTube Channel.

Have you learned the #GimmeFive dance? Learn the choreography, teach it to others and promote dance as a celebration of National Dance Week.

ADTA is still accepting contributions: To participate, video tape yourself, colleagues and clients [with permission] dancing the #GimmeFive dance. Submit videos to Angie at thedanceoftherapy@gmail.com. Please send videos by May 1st if you’d like to be included in the upcoming official ADTA mashup!
